The Disability Collection
Disability Collection Case Study
Accessibility Lab
People with disabilities make up about 20% of the population, but are shown in less than 2% of the images in the media. Even more insult? The images you do see are often fakes—people pretending to have a disability, showing something far from reality. We set out to change that with The Disability Collection, a stock-photo library in partnership with Getty Images featuring authentic images of people with disabilities.
I was the creative director on this project. In order to capture what this community wanted, we held several focus groups and I personally workshopped ideas with members of the disability community. The Disability Collection was a winner of a Shorty Social Good Award and shortlisted for a D&AD award.
Accessibility and inclusion are big for me in the work I do every day. In addition to The Disability Collection, I led creative efforts for our Accessibility Lab at Yahoo.
